Parameter Sensitivity Study on Inflow Distortion of Boundary Layer Ingested Turbofans

The inflow distortion to the fan introduced by ingestion of fuselage boundary layer is most critical challenge in realizing benefits later ingesting (BLI) concepts. Minimizing level while maintaining desired amount ingested and free stream flow crucial minimizing penalties efficiency noise emissions. In this paper, a parametric sensitivity study performed examine integration two semi-buried BLI turbofans at rear end typical tube-and-wing body (TWB) fuselage. key parameters influencing BLI, such as nacelle installation positions, wing position, length, shape, intake shape operating conditions were evaluated computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Among investigated parameters, increasing spanwise spacing improved reducing diffusion separation, but needs be offset against added weight drag. A high position variant showed strong interference between nacelle, which must avoided significantly increases complexity distortion. moderate angle attack (AOA) variation did not affect there was tendency for from increase when AOA increased. general conclusions will useful conceptual design similar type configuration, well more comprehensive optimization aircraft–engine integration.
